Pupil Premium

If your child is eligible for ‘free school meals’ and you register them for this, we will receive extra funding. This funding is called ‘Pupil Premium’.

Even though your child will receive universal free school meals, up to Year 2, they may qualify for Pupil Premium.

Pupil Premium Funding:

The funding was introduced in 2011 to help disadvantaged children achieve their full potential.

The funding also provides support for children and young people of service families, referred to as service pupil premium.

It is provided for children who:

  • Are registered for free school meals – even if they choose to have a home packed lunch
  • Have been registered for free school meals at any point in the past six years
  • Are, or have been, in care (Looked After Child – LAC)
  • Have parents in the armed forces

Pupil premium is not a personal budget for individual pupils, and schools do not have to spend pupil premium so that it solely benefits pupils who meet the funding criteria. It can be used:

  • to support other pupils with identified needs, such as those who have or have had a social worker, or who act as a carer
  • for whole class interventions which will also benefit non-disadvantaged pupils

Are you able to apply for free school meals?

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Universal Credit – with an annual earned income of no more than £7,400 after tax
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual gross income of no more than £16,190

If you think you may be eligible for free school meals, apply now through the Norfolk Schools website: Free school meals – Norfolk County Council or by downloading the form below. You can also ask the school office for a copy of the form.

Governors have agreed that whilst the Pupil Premium Grant must prioritise the achievement and well-being of disadvantaged pupils, the benefits of resources and services should – wherever possible – extend to include other pupils, many of whom are also vulnerable.

The provision and impact of Pupil Premium Funding are monitored through all levels of leadership and management, including Governors, SLT and Year groups, Performance Appraisal and training.

Governors, Leaders, Teachers and Support Staff are accountable for improving the educational opportunities for pupils entitled to the Pupil Premium.

If you require any further information please contact the school office for support – 01603 898292.
