Welcome to Miss Hydon's Class Page
Mrs Fordham and Mrs Owen also work in our classroom.
We have PE on Monday and Wednesday and we go to the library to change our books on Thursdays.
We also have the opportunity to do lots of different clubs at lunchtime and after school. Click here to find out more.
You will find out lots of information about what we have been doing here.
Our topic for the first half of the summer term is “The Great Fire of London”. We will be learning about how it started and what happened during the fire. We will be looking at eyewitness evidence from Samuel Pepys, an historical character alive at the time.
After half term our topics will be “Minibeasts” and “Our Local Area”. We will be investigating Minibeasts using a range of sources of information including book, CD Rom and the internet. As part of our work on “Our Local Area” we will go for a walk around
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING THIS TERM?
Literacy
The children will be looking at longer books and working on planning and writing extended stories
We shall be enjoying texts using word play, poems, riddles, tongue twisters and so on. We will be using non-fiction texts to support our work in Science, practising our skim-reading skills and learning how to write non-fiction texts about mini-beasts.
To help your child with literacy please could you continue to read regularly with your child and help them to learn their weekly spellings. You could also teach them some poems, tongue twisters and riddles to use during literacy time.
Numeracy
The children will be consolidating their knowledge of number bonds to 20 and practising mental calculations using a variety of strategies. We will be developing our understanding of subtraction as the inverse of addition and continuing our work on time. The children will be learning the language of position, direction and movement and recognising right angles.
To support the children’s work with money you could encourage them to pay for things they buy, and help them to work out how much change they would get.
Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL)
“ Say no to bullying”
The theme develops and revisits four SEAL themes: what bullying is, how it feels, why people bully, how we can prevent and respond to it and how children can use their SEAL skills to tackle this problem.
